Summer Sweaty Armpits!September 11, 2018

Don’t suffer in silence this summer! If you think you might be suffering from this excessive sweating and usual methods such as antiperspirants haven’t worked, you probably are a good candidate for MiraDry®!

Many people are still not aware of the possibility of having underarm MiraDry® to successfully treat this condition. This non-invasive procedure uses electromagnetic waves to a very precise depth beneath the skin’s surface, which in turn, safely target your skin’s sweat glands, without disrupting its surrounding tissue. Not to mention that MiraDry® has a very strong safety record too! Although patients may experience some minimal soreness or swelling in and around the treatment area, it typically clears up within a few weeks, and patients are free to resume their regular activities immediately following treatment. To date, more than 6,000 MiraDry®  procedures have been performed worldwide, as patients from all walks of life continue to report minimal side effects, optimal tolerability of treatment, and lasting, successful results, months after treatment.

This treatment is quick, safe and relatively painless. Our patients have felt satisfaction with their results as it leaves them sweat-free and clean. They no longer worry about potential embarrassing situations or feeling self conscious about themselves as this treatment is long lasting.

In order to assess your suitability for this treatment, you will need to have a full consultation to exclude other medical conditions which may have contributed to this condition. Make an appointment for a initial assessment here.

How To Minimise Big Pores
How To Minimise Big PoresAugust 30, 2018

Don’t we all want silky smooth skin, unfortunately big pores often stand in our way! Here are some of our staff-proven ways on how to minimise the appearance of big pores.

Firstly, we need to know the factors that cause big pores, but of the many, there are three main causes.
The first one is age. As we age, we naturally lose elasticity in the surrounding skin that supports pores, causing pores to appear bigger than they actually are. Secondly, due to genetics and higher oil production, men are more likely to have bigger pores compared to women. And last though not least, our body produces sebum, which naturally hydrates our skin to prevent from drying. Some people (especially most men, as mentioned above) produce more than average will find that their oily skin causes bigger pores.

What are some of the ways to make big pores look smaller:

1. Exfoliate:

Exfoliating helps dead skin cells to be removed from the upper skin layer to brighten skin texture and get rid of accumulated cells surrounding and in the pores. Cleaned-out pores look and smaller because dead skin cells are mostly oxidized debris, and they make pores look blackish.

Medical skincare has led to the development of effective treatments for big pores. If you have big pores, you consider the following treatments:

2. Chemical Peels:

Tokyo Garden uses varying types of prescription-strength acids for our chemical peels to remove your outer layers of dead skin – revealing healthier, softer skin underneath. This procedure is done by an experienced medical doctor to ensure your skin is handled safely.

See our Jessner Skin Peel here!

3. Fractional Non-Ablative Laser Skin Resurfacing:

Fractional Non-Ablative Laser Skin Resurfacing works very well to create micro-zones of collagen boosting to generate new skin. Other than minimising the appearance of pores, acne scars can also be treated. There is some downtime of mild redness and flaking of skin, which is normal for skin to come off so as to reveal new skin. Typically a series of 3 sessions is enough for long-lasting results. This procedure is also personally done by an experienced medical doctor to ensure your skin reacts properly to the laser.

Summer Time At The Beach!
Summer Time At The Beach!August 19, 2018

It’s summer time, the hot sun is brilliant, the ocean tides are tempting and the beach is beckoning you. But before you forget your skincare routine, here are three summer skincare reminders, to help take care of your delicate skin into these hot, hot months!

Drinking More Water

We have so many patients that we see whose skin always showed some visible signs of dehydration. During this warm period, you lose a lot of water and electrolytes due to sweating. Increasing your water intake, will help your cells to replenish your skin tissue and increasing skin firmness and elasticity. So remember, 6 – 8 glasses a day to keep that bouncy skin glowin’ in the sun.

Sunscreen Always

We all know the damages of the sun, UVA andUVB rays can be so detrimental to our skin – creating extra melanin and dark pigmentation. Use at least a SPF 50+ sunscreen for water resistant protection, and then don’t forget to top it up after every four hours!

Directly Hydrating Your Skin

Been increasing all that water intake and all the sunscreen, and yet your skin still looks dull and dehydrated? Tokyo Garden has an effective hydration treatment – 水光注射 Skin Boosters can compensate for any loss in the skin’s natural collagen and hylaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid molecules work by absorbing moisture and then expand into gel-like particles below the skin’s surface, which keeps the skin firm and looking hydrated. This treatment can last for up to three to six months!

Stop Being Hairy!
Stop Being Hairy!July 30, 2018

Do you have unwanted excess hair on your body that you find embarrassing and difficult to hide? Well, you are not alone! Many of us suffer from visible, unwanted hair that’s troublesome to remove. However, of course there are a number of safe and effective options out there for you to try. Here are some methods but Laser Hair Removal is still our best bet!

Plucking

A simple and common method, but slow and not very effective if you’re trying to remove more than a few hairs at one time or if you’re trying to get rid of the hairs permanently.  Once you pluck out the hair, it grows back relatively fast. Not to mention, it can be painful and can cause rashes and irritation.

Shaving

Shaving is less painful than tweezing and also can remove much more hair over a bigger part of your body, but like tweezing, it’s not permanent too. Apart from that and giving you little cuts (if you are not careful), and razor burns,  it also adds to your expenses with the purchase of new razors every few weeks.

Waxing

Now, waxing is a semi-permanent option that can be used to prevent hair growth for normally up to a month. Although some areas such as your back and shoulders can yield results that may last even a little bit longer, in the end, the hair will always grow back.  However, wax is also not an easy medium to use and could cause more pain, especially if you are new to it.

Electrolysis

Electrolysis is considered to be permanent, as it works by burning hair follicles in your skin so they cannot produce new hairs. For electrolysis to be effective, you need to prepare for umpteen sessions and performed improperly under the wrong hands, it can cause damage to your skin and even permanent discolouration to the skin. Definitely not suitable for people with sensitive skin as their skin can react easily.

Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is your best option as a fast and effective method. It works well on small and large areas and can be used on all types of skin tones, sensitivity levels, and hair densities to remove excess hair fast. With all the advancements in laser technology, the process has become non-harming to skin and its precision makes it unable to cause damage to surrounding skin. You can also get more coverage and comfort than any other method for hair removal on the market.

All You Want To Know About Fillers
All You Want To Know About FillersJuly 17, 2018

HA (hyaluronic acid) Dermal fillers can make you look fresher on your face. If you have never had them before, you can take a look at this article to find out more how they can help!

HA Dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance found naturally in the body that plump up and fill in, so are useful in filling in fine lines and wrinkles and adding volume for a youthful look.

They are generally used on the lines on the face, as well as enhancing other areas. Popular HA dermal filler procedures include:

Nose enhancements – some of us might want to improve the symmetry of our faces and what better to do it with the nose as it’s in the middle of the face? Injected, it raises and defines a flat bridge or de-emphasize a rounded tip (a common asian nose type)

Reduce nasal labial lines (nose to mouth) – also known as ‘laugh lines’, for many women and men, these are one of the most visible signs of ageing.

Reduce marionette lines (from the corner of the mouth down to the chin) – deep marionette lines can make you appear sad or negative, as they can make an appearance of a downturned mouth.

Reduced deepened, tired eyes –  dermal fillers can make you look less tired by filling in and plumping up concave tear trough areas due to sagging skin and loss of fats.

Plumping up flat cheeks – as we age, we lose cheek definition; fat from the cheeks migrates to the jowls, causing sagging cheeks and heavy jowls, and what’s worse, it also makes nasal labial lines and the downturned corners of the mouth more obvious.

Under the hands of our skilled and caring doctors, fillers injections can feel like having pens drawing on the face, painless and no downtime!

Masking Your Skin
Masking Your SkinMay 10, 2018

A good skin care regimen can never be complete without a facial mask. A mask helps to draw out impurities, eliminate dead cells, allow penetration of active ingredients and even tighten and tone the skin. However, finding the right one may be a challenge.

Just have to ask yourself one simple question: “What is my skin type?”

And here is a simple way to test your skin type:

  1. Wash your face and do not put any products on for a few hours or overnight.
  2. After that, you can either touch your face or press a tissue over your face and observe which parts are oily and which are not. The more oily parts you find, the oiler your skin could be. So is the same for dry parts. However, if you’ll like to find out more accurately what type of skin condition you have, Tokyo Garden offers a detailed skin analysis test for $20. (Find out more at 6732 0402 or just email us here!)

Now, it is time to choose the right facial mask for yourself!
